About Duncan

Christian Counsellor · Psychotherapist · NHS Mental Health Chaplain

Hello. My name is Duncan. I am a Christian counsellor and lay minister with experience in NHS chaplaincy, education and community pastoral work. I offer confidential, faith-aware counselling for individuals and couples, integrating recognised counselling practice with Christian pastoral care. I hold a Master’s degree in Pastoral Studies and an Advanced Diploma in in Psychotherapeutic Counselling. My aim is to provide a safe space for people to explore emotional, relational and faith-related concerns with compassion and respect.

I am a Christian counsellor and experienced lay minister with over twenty years of pastoral service across chaplaincy, education and community settings. I have served as a Mental Health Chaplain within the NHS, and previously as a Chaplain and teacher in an education,al setting.  These are experiences that have shaped my compassionate, steady and thoughtful approach to care.

My work integrates Christian faith, psychological insight and recognised counselling practice with Christian pastoral care, drawing from:

  • Psychodynamic Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Person-Centred approach

thus offering a safe and reflective space where individuals can explore emotional struggles, questions of faith, and life’s wider challenges.

I hold:

  • a Master’s Degree in Pastoral Studies,
  • a PGCE in Religious Education,
  • and a Level 5 Professional Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling Practice.

At the heart of my work is the belief that every person is created with dignity, worth, and value.

Blackpool is one of Britain’s most recognisable seaside towns — a place associated with lights, entertainment, family holidays, humour and resilience. Yet behind the brightness of the promenade, the Tower and the Illuminations, many people in Blackpool quietly carry anxiety, depression, relationships, trauma, grief, spiritual questions, work stress, family pressure or a deep sense of loneliness.

For some, life can feel like keeping up appearances: smiling outwardly while feeling overwhelmed inwardly. Others may be navigating financial pressure, caring responsibilities, difficult relationships, past wounds, questions of faith, or the emotional weight of living in a town where many people know what it means to struggle.

Christian Counselling Blackpool offers a safe, confidential and thoughtful space where you can speak honestly about what you are carrying. It is not about being judged, preached at, or given easy religious answers. It is about being listened to carefully, understood as a whole person, and supported as you explore your emotional, relational and spiritual life.

At Christian Counselling Blackpool, I offer online Christian counselling for individuals and couples in Blackpool and across the UK. Sessions are available by secure video, allowing you to receive support from your own home, whether you live near Blackpool town centre, South Shore, North Shore, Bispham, Layton, Marton, Anchorsholme, Cleveleys, Poulton-le-Fylde or elsewhere on the Fylde Coast.

Blackpool has a unique character. It is a town of energy, humour, survival and community spirit. But it is also a place where many people face real pressures — emotional, financial, relational and spiritual.

You may be looking for counselling because you are experiencing:

  • Anxiety, panic or constant worry
  • Depression, low mood or loss of motivation
  • Relationship or marriage difficulties
  • Grief, bereavement or unresolved loss
  • Trauma, childhood wounds or painful memories
  • Anger, resentment or emotional overwhelm
  • Work stress, burnout or uncertainty about the future
  • Loneliness, shame or low self-worth
  • Questions about faith, prayer, guilt, suffering or identity

For Christians, emotional distress can sometimes feel complicated by faith. You may wonder why you are struggling when you “should” be coping. You may feel guilty for feeling anxious, depressed or angry. You may have been told to simply pray more, forgive quickly, or move on — when what you really need is time, safety, understanding and wise support.

Christian counselling allows space for both psychological insight and spiritual reflection. Your faith can be included where it is helpful, but always with sensitivity and respect.

If you are in crisis, you can also contact Samaritans for 24/7 support.

The aim is not to offer quick fixes or simplistic answers. It is to create a safe reflective space where you can begin to understand what has happened, what you feel, what you need, and how you might move forward with greater clarity, courage and hope.
