Fees & Investment in Counselling

Counselling Fees & Accessibility

Seeking support can be a courageous step. I believe professional Christian counselling should be both sustainable and accessible.

I operate a fee-paying practice which enables me to offer consistent, high-quality care. At the same time, I recognise that financial circumstances vary — and I aim to provide a limited number of reduced-fee spaces for those on lower incomes.

My fees are structured transparently and fairly, reflecting both professional standards and compassion.

Standard Session Fee

    • Individual Counselling (55 minutes): £55.00

    • Couples Counselling (55 minutes): £75.oo

    • Online sessions via secure video

Sessions are payable in advance via secure online payment.

Reduced-Fee Spaces

I offer a small number of sessions at a reduced rate for those who may otherwise struggle to access counselling.

For this reason, I offer a small number of reduced-fee spaces at any given time.

These places are limited, and when they are filled, I operate a short waiting list. If cost is a concern, please feel free to mention this in your initial enquiry. We can have an open and respectful conversation.

Eligibility may include: Students, those on low income, unemployed clients, individuals receiving certain benefits and trainee counsellors.

Sliding Scale Example:

Annual Income (before tax) Session Fee
£0 – £20,000 £40
£20,000 – £35,000 £50
£35,000+ £55

Reduced-fee spaces are limited and reviewed periodically to ensure fairness.  If finances are a concern, please mention this during your enquiry.

Why I Charge for Counselling

Professional counselling involves:

    • Ongoing training and supervision

    • Insurance and professional membership

    • Secure technology and data protection

    • Preparation and reflective practice

Charging appropriately ensures I can offer ethical, focused, and sustainable care.

It also protects the therapeutic relationship — counselling works best when it is valued and invested in.

Payment & Cancellations

Payment is usually requested at least 24 hours before your appointment.

This helps to keep the practical and financial side of counselling clear and straightforward, allowing the session itself to remain focused on you and the work we are doing together. It also helps me manage the practice consistently and fairly for all clients.

I operate a 48-hour cancellation policy. If you need to change or cancel an appointment, please let me know as early as you reasonably can.

Appointments cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice, or missed without notice, will normally remain chargeable. This is because the appointment time has been reserved specifically for you and, at short notice, it can be difficult to offer that space to another client.

I do, however, understand that unexpected circumstances can arise, and I am always happy to discuss these sensitively where appropriate.

Regular attendance can be an important part of the counselling process, particularly in the early stages, as it helps to maintain continuity and momentum in the work.

For this reason, I would generally recommend weekly sessions where possible. However, I recognise that financial circumstances vary. Some clients choose to attend fortnightly because this makes counselling more affordable and sustainable for them.

Fortnightly counselling would not usually be my first recommendation, particularly where someone is working through significant or complex difficulties, but it can sometimes provide a practical way of accessing ongoing support when weekly sessions are financially difficult.

If affordability is affecting how often you feel able to attend, please feel free to raise this with me. We can talk openly about the options and consider what may be both therapeutically helpful and financially manageable for you.
