About Duncan

Christian Counsellor · Psychotherapist · NHS Mental Health Chaplain

Hello. My name is Duncan. I am a Christian counsellor and lay minister with experience in NHS chaplaincy, education and community pastoral work. I offer confidential, faith-aware counselling for individuals and couples, integrating recognised counselling practice with Christian pastoral care. I hold a Master’s degree in Pastoral Studies and an Advanced Diploma in in Psychotherapeutic Counselling. My aim is to provide a safe space for people to explore emotional, relational and faith-related concerns with compassion and respect.

I am a Christian counsellor and experienced lay minister with over twenty years of pastoral service across chaplaincy, education and community settings. I have served as a Mental Health Chaplain within the NHS, and previously as a Chaplain and teacher in an education,al setting.  These are experiences that have shaped my compassionate, steady and thoughtful approach to care.

My work integrates Christian faith, psychological insight and recognised counselling practice with Christian pastoral care, drawing from:

  • Psychodynamic Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Person-Centred approach

thus offering a safe and reflective space where individuals can explore emotional struggles, questions of faith, and life’s wider challenges.

I hold:

  • a Master’s Degree in Pastoral Studies,
  • a PGCE in Religious Education,
  • and a Level 5 Professional Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling Practice.

At the heart of my work is the belief that every person is created with dignity, worth, and value.

Brighton is often seen as one of the UK’s most open, creative and expressive cities — a place of sea air, colour, individuality, culture and freedom. Yet even in a city known for welcome and self-expression, many people still carry private struggles: anxiety, depression, relationship pain, grief, shame, trauma, anger, spiritual confusion, or the exhaustion of trying to hold everything together.

At Christian counselling, I offer online Christian counselling for people in Brighton and Hove, providing a calm, confidential space where faith and emotional life can be explored together. You do not need to have everything sorted. You may feel close to God, distant from God, angry with God, unsure what you believe, or simply tired of pretending you are fine.

Christian counselling Brighton offers a place to speak honestly — about your mind, your relationships, your past, your faith, and the parts of life that feel difficult to name.

Online counselling may be suitable for:

If you are in crisis, you can also contact Samaritans for 24/7 support.

Brighton has a reputation for openness, creativity and independence. It is a city associated with the seafront, the Royal Pavilion, the Lanes, North Laine, student life, activism, culture and diversity. The official tourism guide describes Brighton as a city known for its welcoming and diverse character, creativity and historic landmarks.

But places with a strong public identity can sometimes create private pressure. You may feel that you are meant to be confident, expressive, successful, socially connected or emotionally free — while inside you feel anxious, lonely, confused, ashamed, exhausted or spiritually dry.

For some people in Brighton, the struggle is not simply mental health in isolation. It may involve deeper questions:

Who am I really?
Where do I belong?
Why do I feel so alone when everyone else seems connected?
How do I reconcile faith, desire, disappointment, relationships and emotional pain?
Can I be honest with God about what I am really feeling?

Christian counselling Brighton gives you space to explore these questions carefully, without being rushed, judged or reduced to a label.

I offer online Christian counselling for people across Brighton and Hove, including those living in or near Kemptown, Hove, Preston Park, Seven Dials, Hanover, Queen’s Park, North Laine, the Lanes, Rottingdean, Portslade and the wider East Sussex area.

Because sessions are online, you can access counselling from home, work, university accommodation or another private space. This can be especially helpful if you are busy, anxious about travelling, managing family responsibilities, or would prefer the privacy of speaking from your own environment.

In a city known for freedom and self-expression, many people still quietly struggle with anxiety, shame, loneliness, relationship pain, grief and spiritual disconnection.
Christian Counselling Brighton allows for confidential online space for faith, identity, anxiety, relationships and emotional healing
