Faith-sensitive online counselling for alcohol, drugs, pornography, gambling, sex, exercise, work, food and other compulsive behaviours.
Addiction can feel lonely, shameful and exhausting. You may know that something is damaging your life, relationships, faith, health or peace of mind — yet still find yourself returning to it again and again.
Christian counselling for addictions offers a safe, compassionate and non-judgemental space to explore what is happening beneath the behaviour. Rather than simply asking, “Why can’t I stop?”, counselling gently asks deeper questions: What pain, fear, emptiness, stress, trauma, loneliness or unmet need might this addiction be trying to soothe?
At Christian Counselling, we offer faith-sensitive support for people struggling with many forms of addiction and compulsive behaviour, including alcohol, drugs, pornography, sex, gambling, food, shopping, gaming, work, exercise, running, social media, and other habits that feel difficult to control.
You do not need to have everything together before seeking help. Counselling is a place to begin honestly, safely and with hope.

Hello. My name is Duncan.
I offer confidential Christian counselling for individuals and couples, integrating recognised counselling practice with Christian pastoral care.
With vast experience in NHS chaplaincy, education and wider pastoral work, I provide a calm, safe and reflective space where people can explore emotional, relational and faith-related concerns with compassion and respect.
Addiction is not always about substances. It can involve any behaviour or pattern that begins to control your life, even when part of you wants to stop.
For some people, addiction is obvious and visible. For others, it is hidden behind work, fitness, achievement, secrecy, religious performance, online habits or private shame.
Addiction may involve:
Not every strong habit is an addiction. However, if a behaviour is causing harm, secrecy, guilt, relationship conflict, financial pressure, spiritual distress or loss of control, it may be worth exploring in counselling.
Many people struggling with addiction already carry a heavy burden of guilt. For Christians, this can sometimes be intensified by feelings of spiritual failure, fear of judgement, or the belief that “I should be stronger than this.”
Christian counselling does not aim to condemn you. It offers a space where faith, honesty and psychological understanding can sit together.
Addiction is often connected to deeper wounds: anxiety, trauma, grief, depression, loneliness, stress, rejection, low self-worth, unresolved anger, or a longing to escape emotional pain. Christian counselling can help you understand these roots while also supporting practical change.
The Christian message is not that we are beyond help. It is that healing, restoration and grace are possible.
Christian counselling can support you by helping you:
Christian counselling is not a quick fix, and recovery is rarely a straight line. But change is possible, especially when addiction is approached with honesty, support, compassion and practical steps.
Christian counselling can be very helpful, but some addictions require additional specialist support.
If you are physically dependent on alcohol, drugs or medication, it is important to seek medical advice before stopping suddenly. Withdrawal can sometimes be dangerous and may need professional supervision.
If gambling has caused serious debt, you may also need financial or debt support. If addiction has placed you or someone else at immediate risk, urgent help should be sought.
Counselling can work alongside medical services, recovery groups, pastoral support, accountability structures and specialist addiction services.
Online counselling can be especially helpful for addiction because it allows you to access support from a private space. This can be important if you feel embarrassed, ashamed, anxious or worried about being seen attending counselling locally.
I offer online Christian counselling for adults across the UK. Sessions provide a confidential space to explore your struggles, your faith, your relationships and the changes you want to make.

Yes. Gambling addiction often involves secrecy, shame, debt, anxiety and chasing losses. Counselling can help you understand the emotional pull of gambling and begin rebuilding stability and trust.
Exercise is usually healthy, but it can become harmful when it feels compulsive, causes injury, damages relationships or becomes tied to self-worth. Counselling can help you explore whether running or fitness has become a form of escape, control or self-punishment.
Prayer can be deeply important, but many people also benefit from counselling, accountability, medical support, recovery groups and practical strategies. Seeking help is not a lack of faith. It can be part of the healing process.
Relapse does not mean you are beyond help. It can be part of understanding the cycle of addiction. Counselling can help you identify triggers, reduce shame, learn from setbacks and continue moving forward.
Sometimes. If you are physically dependent on alcohol, drugs or medication, you should seek medical advice before stopping suddenly. Counselling can work alongside specialist addiction services, medical care or recovery groups.
